Member,
The Brigade of the American Revolution The Detached Hospital is a living history organization focused on the medical practices and techniques of the colonial era, with special emphasis paid to the period of the American Revolution. We attempt to the best of our ability and knowledge to bring to life a time in history in which Surgery was called “The Brutal Craft” and the surgical theater was sometimes called the “Cock Pit.” We do this for many reasons, but primarily to honor the memory of those men and women who served as the founders of modern medical practice as we know it today, and to give a sense of medicine’s early beginnings to the public.
